Description

This ornate Cavalry Saber was manufactured by the Peter D. Luneschloss Company ( PDL ) of Solingen, Germany and exported to the United States during the Civil War. Presented to 1st Lt. W. E. Briggs, the inscription reads: ? Presented to 1st Lieut. W. E. Briggs by his friends of Co. E 5th Reg Art N. Y. V. as a token of the estimation in which he is held by them as an Officer and Gentleman? 1stLt. William E. Briggs was discharged for incompetence in April,1863. His records are included with the sword. CONDITION: HILT, white rayskin grip and wire are tight, a good portion of the gilt remains, there is a well done repair to the pommel cap. BLADE, a steel color with no original gloss remaining, some spots of darker patina. SCABBARD, the blue has some worn spots and scuffs, a couple of very minor dents, the mountings retain gilt in protected areas. Please see pictures. Shipping $40
