Description
The First Troop of Philadelphia or City Troop as it was commonly called, is the oldest military organization in the United States, having formed on Nov. 17, 1774. Some of it?s original members served as George Washington?s personal bodyguards. The organization appears to be still active with membership by invitation. This saber dates from the Civil War or near the time. It was manufactured by Gebruder Weyersberg of Solingen , Germany and imported by Horstmann & Sons of Philadelphia. The reverse ricasso is stamped with the Kings Head mark of Weyersberg with the Horstmann stamp on the obverse. The blade is decorated with the usual floral designs with an American shield and eagle on the obverse and an eagle, Tecumseh , and CT (for City Troop) on the reverse. CONDITION: HILT the iron hilt has a black finish so possibly it was silver plated, the sharkskin grip and wire are tight and complete. BLADE a bright steel color, marks are clear. SCABBARD blued scabbard has some light rust spots beginning, still a dark color, no dents. Please see pictures. Shipping $40
