Description
Made by the Ames Manufacturing Company, of Chicopee, Mass., this NCO sword has an unusual modified scabbard. Evidently it is to use with a sword belt much like the Model 1860 Staff & Field sword.. We have seen only one other quite a few years ago. The who, why, & when are unknown, at least to us MARKS: US & 1864 on the obverse ricasso, the Ames address on the reverse ricasso, Inspectors stamps GWC (George W. Chapmann) on the obverse ricasso and scabbard drag, JT (John Ferdinand) on the reverse knucklebow. CONDITION: Hilt has normal brass patina, Blade is near mint.
