Description
A regulation pattern, these swords were intended for the rank of major and above. Well made, this sword was one of the many imported during the Civil War from the sword makers of Solingen, Germany. The shallow European etching and the words “IRON PROOF” on the blades spine confirm this. The decoration on the blade is the usual floral designs with the eagle and E PLURIBUS UNUM on the obverse side and US on the reverse. Condition: The shrkskin grip is complete and the wire is tight. The gilt is gone from the hilt and the scabbard with the brass a never been touched mustard color. The blade is bright with mostly orginal lustre. There is a very small spot next to the washer on the reverse side. The scabbard is browned. No dents except a couple of minor ones at the drag. Please check out the pictures. Shipping $40.00
