Description
During the Civil War the supply of Model 1836 bayonets ran low. A replacement bayonet, the Model 1861. was manufactured. This new bayonet featured tapered shoulders on the blade which was far stronger than the original M1836. Like the M1836 this bayonet was for the Model 1842 muskets and the Model 1836 muskets converted to percussion. Condition: There is a lot of patina on this bayonet, but surfaces are smooth and the US stamp is clear. The locking ring is complete and works well. The scabbard is complete and strong. The black finish is flaking off the belt loop. Please see the pictures. Shipping $20
