Description
This bayonet is for the U. S. Model 1836 flintlock and Model 1842 percussion muskets. The bayonet is in overall very good condition with a finish of a mix of bright steel and tarnish. The somewhat unusual scabbard is a militia shoulder belt scabbard. It is coated with a varnish/wax solution that strongly resembles hardened tar. Evidently, some militia companies chose to keep their bayonets on a shoulder belt after the Federal army discontinued its use. For different examples of this type of scabbard, I recommend AMERICAN SOCKET BAYONETS AND SCABBARDS by Robert Reilly. SHIPPING: $20.00
